Every reform was once a private opinion.
R. W. Emerson
Dear reader,
The way I address you implies that you are just about to read some literary work of fiction, which is not true. I am not a writer, not even a storyteller. All in all, I was asked by my fellow colleagues to write a few words toplace on our site, a short report on whatever appeals to me as important, interesting or, at least, worth writing about. This kind of writing normally concerns some latest news covering various happenings all over the world.
As you might easily guess, this sort of task does not necessarily constitute any insurmountable difficulty to the performer. And yet, inevitably, a problem arises: I do not follow any current events. I did before, in days of yore when brave knights courted fair ladies. Those days are gone, so are brave knights. And what we used to call events has become insignificant trivia the“crucial” importance of whichis exaggerated to extremes bymass media.
You may say I am a dreamer. Well, to some extent. But I am not the only one.
If Coke is a mystery
And Michael Jackson… history
If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth
What am I to do?
Have I got the gifts to get me through the gates of that mansion?
U2 “The playboy mansion”(“Pop”,1997)
Still, we cannot live an empty life.We all need relevant experience and profound knowledge that only comes through living. Otherwise one is doomed to a shallow existence similar to nothingness. But once again, all external events that seemingly take place around us are often deceptive in the way they are presented to us as part of the general public, and as such we are treated as if we were some average homogenous mechanical gathering of obscure living beings. Someone seems to judge a book by its cover.
You are still my brother till the end of time
You and I we lost our ways
Difference is divine
Till the end of time
Morten Harket “Brother” (“Brother”, 2014)
“Difference is divine”. The hardest thing to recognise. And the most rewarding one to appreciate. For both parties. Isn’t it through difference that we are able to findwhat we all have in common? Surprisingly, a lot at times. All we need is courage.
I am not afraid of anything in this world
There’s nothing you can throw at me
That I haven’t already heard
I’m just trying to find a decent melody
A song that I could sing in my own company
U2 “Stuck in moment you can’t get out of”(“All that you can’t leave behind”, 2000)
So, dear reader.Have mercy on me for my humble attempt to express myself. This writing may not be concise or coherent. I have no intention to please you. Far from that. The point is you may have an irresistible urge to respond to the standpoint above. Hopefully, you will, in any way you may consider appropriate.
All you need is your own imagination, so use it, that’s what it’s, boy!
Madonna “Vogue” (1990)
P.S. By the way, while writing, I was listening to the exquisite violin concertoop.101 (1908) by the major minor German composer Max Reger (1873-1916). Have I told you I am snobbish?
