Hello, I’m Daniel, I study at the Medical University, and I want to learn specific English but I have serious time constraints.
Hi, my name is Jane, I am a lawyer and I need to learn juristic English but unfortunately I’m really short in time.
Good morning! I am Alexander and I’m a politician. There are a lot of cases in my job when I need English so hard. But as you can understand I can’t afford scheduled lessons.
Now, do you like serials? This question is asked not because it’s an interesting topic but because your love to serials can help you a lot if you only use it right.
Once somebody said “ Whatever you do can be useful if you only think how to make it useful”.
So, if you need to learn specific English your job demands and not every linguistic center can offer you this opportunity — serials are the way out.
Here I want to tell you about some which can help you to learn specific vocabulary connected to business, law and medicine.
Let’s start with the “Silicon Valley”. The action is set in San-Francisco- in, as they like to call it — the startups city.
Young programmers, inspired by the success of Apple, Microsoft and Facebook, go to California to change the world with the help of their innovative ideas.
Here you learn how to pitch the product, the way Americans and foreigners do it, how to avoid mistakes, how to do it right.
I’d recommend to watch it if you have steady upper-intermediate or if you have intermediate just turn on subtitles. It will be understandable for you. By the way, a lot of characters in this serial have accents-Indian, Chinese.. so you will learn to distinguish them and this is one more advantage of this serial.
You just MUST SEE this serial if you are interested in startups.
The next serial I want to talk about is the “Suits”.
In order to decide to become a lawyer, to learn the necessary experience in eloquence, to develop skills of effective interaction with people, to increase self-confidence I recommend everyone watch a great series of «Suits» because as they say in the serial — “The main asset of a lawyer is the ability to always be self-confident”.
Here you can learn all the “legal” vocabulary. You can see how lawyers communicate to each other, how the trial goes and everything that is related to it.
I think it is a practical guide for lawyers and connoisseurs of art.
And the last serial I want to talk about and from which I know all my medical vocabulary is “House M.D”. Here you can watch doctors’ appointments, how they take patients in the USA, the names of different illnesses, medical things and most of all it’s House’s sarcastic jokes that make the serial worth watching. Doctor House is considered to be the meanest man in the world but the Doctor who doesn’t want to see you is the best one.
This serial will be well-understandable for upper-intermediate, or at least turn on subtitles.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this article. Anyway, it’s a good opportunity to combine business with pleasure.
